Desejo-lhe umas boas férias!
I’m sure you won’t miss my maudlin posts of late, we’re off to Portugal to hear fados sung for us – our catharsis against the summer of our own living fado – a summer that was meant to be about birth and babies and instead has been fraught with sadness and loss.
Eudora Welty said Southerners live their narratives and there is no dearth of material floating around here.
But don’t cry for me Argentina porque asi es la vida y andale – okay I know very little Portuguese, but Spanish – es mi sangre.

I’m not sure what fagos are, but if they’re anything like that cantina singer in Freda (the movie with Selma Hyak) sang in the movie–really sad, heart wrenching stuff–I know they’re wonderful.
Have a great time; the rest and get away will do you worlds of good. As a fellow Taurean who also tends to think the cares of the world rest on her shoulder, take it from me–you owe it to yourself to do what you need to do to take care of yourself first! Please do.

Hi Alice – back from travels. The fados are beautiful, unique to Portugal, they are songs about life, sad, heartfelt, and sung with such feeling. Quite amazing. We came back with a nice collection. And I also bought a collection of Indian music in Portugal – lots of Indians there from the colonies. I didn’t know you were a Taurus – when’s your birthday?
