To blog or not to blog

I was reading about others bloggers, about how there are all these millions out there and a lot of bloggers end up just giving up the ghost. Some say they had aspirations of their writing becoming a book deal. Some ran into interpersonal complications from friends or acquaintances and even lovers who thought the blogging was about them. Others just ran out of things to say.

I’ve had about two moments in the last five years of being a regular blogger where I thought why am I doing this? And believe me, I’ve had my share of people who say “I can’t believe you would talk about something like that (read: affair, menopause)” or others who worry they might be the next one to show up in print.

I’ve learned to just say a friend or an acquaintance and not even use a first initial like I used to. I’ve had many an experience where someone thought I was referring to them but I really wasn’t.

I’ve also come to believe that people do what they do because they enjoy it. I really enjoy writing in my blog. I enjoy recording mundane musings to profound emotions and trying to figure out who I am in context of where I am and with whom I am.

Every day approximately 130 to 180 people read my blog. More than half are unique visitors. I’ve had responses from Korea all the way to Iowa. I’ve had angry comments and loving ones. The blog entry that has had the most hits and responses was the one about my chemical peel along with the blow by blow photo of the ensuing days.

I try really hard not to write for my audience (known or perceived).

I’m a happy blogger.
