Obama – why he matters
As I was leaving Eastern Europe, Obama was making his way overseas. Croatians asked me what I thought about a black president and my response was “we need him” – America needs hope, and a fresh look at poverty, education, healthcare and most certainly our foreign policy. A while back in Turkey, my friend’s dad had said about Gul’s election – what Turkey does matters only to Turkey, but what America does matters to the world.
Bush is an embarrassment. He sold our soul.
There is no way a black man will be elected in America is what a Croatian woman told me – I reeled back because I don’t want to believe that. But today I had lunch with a friend who said someone had told her this joke “When Obama got to heaven, God asked him what he believed was his greatest accomplishment as President and Obama said, but I was only president for three minutes.” Neither my friend nor I laughed. This is a sick joke, but the teller went on to say that Obama is Muslim, which he is not, but when pressed the teller of the joke finally said, “Obama is inexperienced.” Let’s hope this is not the majority – because if so, then there is no god or president who could help us.
