Running with scissors
GoGo Borgerding, who makes absolutely wonderful jewelry – bracelets to die for – has a trademark necklace that she calls “Running With Scissors” – I think I need to get it as it is a reminder that operating outside your comfort zone is sometimes a good thing to strive for. Men are teaching me to run with scissors – I’m giving up the old Geisha girl routine and learning to release my inner boy – you know, the part where I get in touch with that side of myself that I manifest so easily in business but so poorly in my personal relationships. The part that says, Hey, Mr. Big Stuff, who do you think you are?
Yesterday, I orbited outside of my comfort zone and you know what, it felt mighty good – reminds me of Martha Wainwright’s lyrics:
Oh, I wish
I wish
I were born a man
so I could learn how to stand
up for myself
like those guys in guitars
I’ve been watching in bars
who are stamping their feet
to a different beat
to a different beat…….
My sister at large in China confides in me – “Rachel, read books that men write about love, you will learn a lot.”
