Everything you need right in here

I read that however you spend New Year’s Day is an indication of how your year will go. Well, hmmm, let’s see. How about we got in bed around 3am, we got woken up by a little boy at 7:15 am, the hot water heater plug blew out, we made black eyed peas, cabbage, risotto with Istra black truffles, bread with honey and butter, and chaurice sausage and had Ruinart champagne. I hid a dime in the risotto. Our housekeeper, our dear friend and her mother visiting from Germany and me, T and T2 sat down to eat our New Year’s Day meal after we had all cleaned the house between LaLa guests, and on the first round of serving the risotto – no one got the hidden dime. So T brought the pot for me to serve a second round, I saw the dime and I hid it back in and stirred and then I thought I had it and gave it to our housekeeper who is always amenable and reliable and probably needs good luck more than the rest of us – and then I went to serve myself the last spoonful and lo and behold, I had the dime.

The last few months of 2011 were a wild ride of exhilaration from ending my job that has been a bedsore, to founding my company, to becoming an innkeeper, to forging the way to work with ex beloved colleagues again, to helping our friend adopt a child – wow, is all I have to say. The first guests who stayed at the LaLa joined our Thanksgiving celebration and the second set joined us at our friend’s awesome New Year’s eve party. I feel in same way that a little at a time I’m grooming mini ambassadors to spread the word about New Orleans charm and wonder. We have so much here, it’s a shame to keep it all to ourselves.

So I think it was Emerson who said that we all have everything we need right in our own backyard, no sense in going out looking for it, just look within and you will see infinity.

Dime or no dime, 2012 is looking brighter than any recent years past.

Hubby and I were here yesterday enjoying the videos of Tin, but I don’t remember if I made any comments at the time. We both agreed that regardless of where Tin began his life, he’s right where he should be now. He must be lots of fun to watch these days. And he’s talking too! I’ve been following the big changes, and hope everything continues to go well for all of you. Now that I think about it, you’re probably all right where you ought to be–that’s a good thing, isn’t it?

Alice – I’m on the high wire without a net, but it makes things more interesting. Since you’re not on Facebook you might be missing the Tinisms I tweet – here are a couple that I know you would get a kick out:

Tinism#1 – I don’t like alligators cuz they eat unicorns.
Tinism #2 – Mama: Do you want to walk the dogs? Tin: Well, I don’t want to walk a cat.

He’s growing up and getting smarter every moment so we have to WATCH OUT!

I feel the same way – a friend of ours is in the throes of the final moments of a possible adoption – baby due Jan 13th (but likely coming earlier) and I told her that if it is her baby it will come to her. I still remember the first time I looked into his eyes and knew 100% + he was meant to be my son – and now I know why – he was meant to be raised here in New Orleans.

I’m starting my own business right in the midst of a recession, going to be working with some old colleagues of mine on another venture, and we are having moderate success renting out the house – so I like this diversification and am excited about now and the future.

So all’s well here and I’m glad to know things are going well for you and Hubby (and I imagine the clan).

My goal is to get to India soon Alice and then we will need to do some serious pow wowing about what that trip might look like.
