A reason to celebrate
Our friend from Spain, Alejandro, left just short of being able to celebrate just one more night with us, and that was last night, the 7th night of Hanukkah and the 7th of December. We usually have people over for the last night but because of other plans, we decided to do it on the 7th and it was impromptu and had all the qualities of spontaneity and yet fun glommed onto it. At the last minute, we invited James Singleton to come play and he brought with him Steve Masakowski and Hector Gallardo to form a Cuban cha-cha jazz trio – OH MY – they were spectacular and the LaLa has turned out to be the most acoustically fabulous listening place I’ve every been – sort of like a mini Maybeck Recital Hall here in the Big Easy. There is nothing like having world class musicians playing in your living room and later, Tin decided to grab his guitar Flower gave him last year and join the band.
Our friend who has become a caterer did the latkes and the Hanukkah cookies, and challah, and every morsel was divine, so T added her burek to the mix along with some yummy red wine and Louisiana strawberries and suddenly everything was just right – kids running around, menorahs ablaze, fine music to move your hips to, and for a moment, peace on earth.
