Thoughts for the busy holiday season
Hanukkah starts tonight and we have all the menorahs (or Hanukkiahs, excuse me) on the counter ready to light. I have half of my business holiday cards written. We have a few Hanukkah trinkets wrapped for Tin. And I fear going anywhere near a shopping area for the next three weeks. But here are a few things to think about:
Ben Franklin said “joy is not in things, it is in us” and I’d raise that quote with another, love is not in others, but in us. So if you are looking for love, look inside.
E.E. Cummings said “miracles are to come”, so while some of us might be lamenting the good things of Christmas past, remember one of the three keys to happiness – something to look forward to – believe that miracles do happen.
Emerson said “scatter joy”, and while you are running around trying to find gifts and circling through your holiday parties, try to spread some of that joy by simply smiling at the person next to you, and letting that car go ahead of you, and maybe even paying the toll for the car in back of you.
Happy Hanukkah everybody – may all your wishes come true.
