Bush is an ASSHOLE!!!!

Friday, November 2nd, 2007

Senator Mary Landrieu sends a critical email:

Override the Water Resources Bill Veto!

President Bush has just vetoed the Water Resources Development Act, a bill that is critical to Louisiana’s future.

President Bush’s veto is a dagger aimed at the heart of Louisiana’s future. It threatens not only hurricane recovery but Louisiana’s entire economy. Republicans and Democrats alike are shocked by the administration’s position, so we all must stand united as we stand up for Louisiana.

Help us build support for an override of the President’s veto by emailing your representatives in Washington today, urging an override of the President’s veto of the Water Resources Development Act!

Help us to override the President’s misguided veto by contacting your Representatives in Washington today!

The cycle of life

Friday, November 2nd, 2007

Arlene – walks around and through doorways imitating Tim Conway – redefining my patience. Has begun staring into corners and will take off with no provocation and run down the dark driveway of my neighbors at full tilt – her aged mind grows more and more addled. Deaf as a doorknob – can stomp right up to her yelling her name and she doesn’t budge. Her sweet face still warms my heart and I fear the day when I will no longer see it.

Loca – spayed on Tuesday, not allowed to walk or jump for 10 days – she has to walk to not jump I tell the vet (who feigns deaf). I read about Labs – they have remarkable energy. They mouth everything. They are tricksters. They require lots of activity and lots of training. I want to roll over and play dead sometimes just because it is mind blowing.

Mom – “I can’t get it in my head that I will be 72, I still keep thinking I’m a young girl.” Meanwhile, she appears more like a 92 year old in poor health, it takes her 20 minutes to get up my front stairs and she gets tired going to get her mail.

Rachel – I still believe if you give me a place to stand I will move the earth – I have energy to spare even if I don’t overdo anymore like before because I know what overdone feels like. Perhaps this is the sweet spot.

Taurus

Is there any such thing as ‘normal’? And if there was, would you want to be it? Of course not! More than ever, you cherish your unique qualities as well as the uniqueness of your friends. Today is a great day to socialize and celebrate your diversity — or at least organize your next social extravaganza. It goes without saying that you should avoid the same old activities and seek out something a little bit edgier. An outrageous day trip could be the perfect thing.

Getting the picture right

Thursday, November 1st, 2007

F has a new iPhone and everyone’s photo comes up when they call her – she wanted to take my photo and took a couple of shots that I didn’t like – since a couple of our girlfriends really posed for their shot, I laid down on the fur rug and kicked my heels up and said, now, take this shot.

So everytime I call, she can get a good laugh.

Be the prize

Thursday, November 1st, 2007

A girlfriend asks me, somewhat distressed, “he’s leaving me, what should I do?” – I said “be the prize” – so easy to offer advice but so hard to follow your own – but I mean it – don’t you love in Caddy Shack when Chevy Chase’s character says, “Be the ball, Bobby” – my friend is the prize, her boyfriend du jour doesn’t realize it, let him go, and in the infamous words of my mother, “next” or in my new and now infamous words, “be the prize, baby.”

A run to clear the mind

Thursday, November 1st, 2007

There is possibly no better antidote to sitting at your desk all day furiously trying to do the impossible in too few hours than a run. Once the girls left, and I turned around two times, figured “fuck dinner” and went for a run. The evening is gorgeous – perfect weather, lights shimmering in the bayou, enough people out and about to make it feel safe.

Listening to my IPOD, I started with Lucinda asking “Are you alright?” and ended with Yerba Buena singing “Guajira” – I could have run more, but needed to finish up work that was left undone and get myself to bed at a decent hour – last night I turned into a pumpkin.

Tea and earnings – yikes!

Thursday, November 1st, 2007

It’s earnings season and I’m already five conference calls behind – late this afternoon, all dressed for Pilates, my doorbell rang and some girlfriends stopped by for Turkish tea bringing scones and pumpkin cake. I cut up a cantaloupe and we sat around and visited. At one point. a friend of ours called and asked what we were doing and F said “talking about men,” and T said, “me, I hope” and she said, “no silly, we never mentioned you at all” – (read: that’s why men love her).

Meanwhile, I had about a zillion things to do and missed Pilates, but we passed a good time.

Mookie Poo

My friend just adopted this dog – kind of freaky.

Napoleon

Thursday, November 1st, 2007

A friend sends his favorite quote:

Those who failed to oppose me, who readily agreed with me, accepted all my views, and yielded easily to my opinions, were those who did me the most injury, and were my worst enemies, because, by surrendering to me so easily, they encouraged me to go too far… I was then too powerful for any man, except myself, to injure me.

I guessed successfully it was Napoleon who said it. But what a great quote? Such a delicate balance we are trying to strike in the “other” – we want someone who mirrors us, completes us, doesn’t disappear beside us, doesn’t rise up to hurt us, doesn’t just say yes when they mean no, but speaks the truth, while understanding they might not know the truth, or that none of us know the truth and yet we acknowledge that truth is what we are both seeking. Again, it’s a great quote.

On not letting things be and not living in the moment

Thursday, November 1st, 2007

A friend writes me late last night:

your latest pendulum thang was the lesson of the day in our meditation class…he said notice agendas…notice what having one does…how does it effect you and others…what are you agendas for others…can you go more into an agendaless moment and see what happens…
ok…that was hard…but liberating of course…a lifetime challenge
next week’s challenge
notice when you are planning or obssessing into the future…after the basic plan is done ie the OVER planning…then go back to the present….ie notice how much you are in the next moment instead of the now..
