Head in the clouds
I read two books, two short stories, and began a third book on my vacation. The first was recommended on a friend’s blog, Somewhere Towards the End, Diana Athill, which I found interesting and yet had a little bit of a sour taste from the laissez fare life Athill led by screwing other people’s husbands. Just didn’t sit right with me. The next was Cloud Atlas by David Mitchell, which wowed me to the ends of the earth and back. I was getting up two hours early to have my tea and just immerse myself in this book that was unlike any book I’ve ever read before and it is amazing. I read two short stories by Kazuo Ishiguro from Nocturnes, a collection of stories on Music and Nightfall, both profoundly sad. Then I started the Omnivore’s Dilemma by Michael Pollan, which I read standing up with Tin sleeping in the Ergobaby on the flight home as once again the promised bassinet eluded us on the Delta flight.
I have so little time to read at home and I want to remedy that.

I had rather mixed feelings about that part myself I must admit. Let me offer another book suggestion should you ever have thoughts of visiting China. I’m enjoying LOST ON PLANET CHINA by J. Maarten Troost who has written a travel log like no other I’ve ever seen. He calls it as he sees it! No political correctness here! Maybe you can read a few sample pages at amazon.com. Spain sounds like a far better place to have gone to for three weeks.
