How far we’ve come and yet … so far to go
I took our guest to see the lower 9th ward and to Lakeview to give her an idea of how badly damaged both areas were – one rich, the other poor. And also to get a view of how far they need to go to get to where they need to be.
It’s pretty sobering to see it after spending time at the LaLa on the bayou where life seems to be just dandy. And don’t get me wrong, life is dandy here but these are sad days as we watch Arlene’s decline. Sad times indeed.
Dogs are not here for any reason. They don’t live short lives for any reason. But I think I have cried more at the end of my dogs’ lives than I have for most anything in my life because I can’t bear to see them go. It’s almost as if at the end you realize how great they were in their constant companionship and how little they asked in return. It’s all quite amazing. You keep hanging on to them thinking if I can do anything for you I will because I get it, I finally realize all you gave me, but at that point, it’s a little too late.
Well I started off talking about Katrina and New Orleans and how far we have come and how far we have to go to be whole. And I ended with dog love because right now that is ever present on my mind.
