Socialism’s excess

Wasn’t it Le Corbusier who suggested these towers to live and work in for the city – “yes, but they were posh and ideal while these are more human” – those socialist apartment buildings remind me of the Decalogue – sparse and brutal – “no, they are more human, they are about turning inside, you will find them all along the Mediterranean, people are more concerned with their interiors” – is this true, what about the geraniums that spill over the balconies, the constant scrubbing of the tile stairs at the entrance?

There is a strong defiant gesture that is on the tip of every eel’s tongue – they defend socialism to the death – the death of what? – it’s an all or nothing proposition – capitalism, socialism, facism, communism – how come we can find humanitarianism somewhere and pull the best from each of these and leave the rest to wither on the vine? None of these are the answer in and of themselves.

I will not live in a socialist apartment building – I’d rather live in a cave.
