Post apocalyptic prayers

I was reading about someone who had a prayer that said, don’t help me to not have danger in my life, but rather equip me with how to deal with it. I’d say the same; yesterday I received notice that two big dogs had attacked a guy and his dog nearby and the whole neighborhood went on red alert. Most everyone responded with how can we help the guy, his dog, what can we do? Not why is this happening to us, but rather what can we do about it.

Last night, with the door wide open because it was so warm, I lay in bed under the whir of the fan and listened to what sounded like gunshots, and after more than a few of them I called the police. While on with them I heard what sounded like a bottle rocket and said maybe I’m mistaken, perhaps its firecrackers but it’s 3AM? The dispatcher said they were getting calls from 1300 Moss as well and were looking into it. I fell asleep hearing the sounds of sirens.

My dreams were tainted by all this mayhem (and the glasses of rose I had had at dinner with a friend) I dreamed that I was washing my face (which I hadn’t done before bed) and suddenly looked up to see the skyscrapers of New York zooming towards the sky and next thing was infantry men going house to house shooting dead anyone they found. I thought about hiding and then thought again – apocalypse – should I just get shot now and not bother with the post apocalypse?
