Haiku for letting go

How to rid yourself of material lust. The New York Times had a review about a book called 100 Dresses and I couldn’t help but look at each one with lust, but the good news is that I have no desire to act on it. I lust, therefore I am not, not that person who would want enough to acquire.

I think back to 2008 when I met Tatjana on the corner of Mimi’s on Fat Tuesday and then months later took my sabbatical to fly to Croatia and lost all of my luggage that included all of my favorite things – vintage Custo dresses, vintage Wonder Woman tee shirts, a portable hula hoop, a sundress that I would wear anywhere anytime – poof gone – and that was the first moment of learning to let go of material possessions, or any possessions for that matter.

Met you full of things
Found you with my heart and soul
Grew richer in time
