Summer here, already?
Summer afternoon – summer afternoon; to me those have always been the two most beautiful words in the English language. ~ Henry James. We had a week that saw a thunderstorm to end all storms, and then a cool spell but it was a tease as summer came yesterday and let’s just forget about Spring – unless you call high 80s spring weather. As usual, Spring in New Orleans means one word – FESTIVALS – ahh the ubiquitous festival – we went to Farm Fest yesterday, but there were so many fests going on the least of which is Freret Street that it was hard to figure out where to fest and next week starts French Quarter Festival with a line up of free music all over the French Quarter that borders on crazy.
Gal Holiday is back in town from Los Angeles and was outside the Children’s Museum and I got to dance with my neighbor and Tin got to join the band.
Later he and Ruby got their faces painted and exchanged snacks:
And in the meantime, by early afternoon I was exhausted but there was more to come, a much needed walk with a friend in need, and later dinner with good friends to catch up on good food, good wine, and good conversation. Nero de Avola, grilled zucchini with mint, grilled shrimp with prosciutto, tofu with spicy blueberry glaze, corn maque choux, and a chocolate poundcake like fantasy with strawberries and blueberries and yum. If you could hold a day like this in your hand and isolate it from everything else, you’d have yourself a perfect summer day.
