The glorious fifties
I saw a friend who just turned 40 and she was upset about the whole passage. I told her I hated turning 40. But 50, now that was a wonderful birthday. As someone said at 50 you know that your youth is irrevocably gone. There is something remarkably freeing about entering the afternoon of your life and entering what Marianne Williamson calls second puberty. Something very freeing indeed.
I told my 40 year old friend that better times were coming.
