The parent’s discretion
Because I’m the mother, that’s why! Remember how many times your mother said this to you? Well it comes from many venues. Today we took Tin for his first doctor’s appointment and learned he was circumcised (the jury was out) and he does have eczema (fragrance free and baths every other day) and that he is in the 10% percentile for weight and height but in the 75% percentile for head size. All good.
The doctor also weighed in on whether to pick him up or not when he is crying. Her opinion is that if he is not in need, and you don’t want to, then don’t because he is fine. Of course, she has four boys and had some of them while she was doing her residency so doesn’t that make a difference in the way she views it.
Turns out that picking him up and pacifying him with cuddles and hugs could well be a way of soothing me just as much as him and that he, at this age, might start getting used to it and not learning how to work it out when he doesn’t get what he wants. Well that’s one opinion among many.
Because I’m the mother so I get to do what I think is right.
