Heavy on my mind

I woke up and went to spin class this morning as our guest made us a version of gazpacho for lunch today. Most of the spin class was done with our eyes closed and most of what was on my mind while I was there was Arlene. I miss her already.

I told the vet I would bring her in on Wednesday – giving us a chance to all say our goodbyes. But yesterday I brought her up on the bed with us and was shocked to see how old she is and how out of it she has become. She’s almost one hundred years old.

Everyday we are giving her as many cookies as she wants and taking her on the bayou to putter in the grass. She was my lucky dog for nearly 14 years and my vet thinks I need to look at my glass half full – that I had that long time with her, but right now I just see the other half.

Oh dear, you seem to having a streak of bad luck lately. I’m sorry about Arlene. And it’s awful to go through what you’ve been going through these past days. I’m thinking of you.

Thanks Alice – my heart is very heavy. Arlene has been a good dog and a constant friend – and I’ll miss her greatly.
