Night of a 1000 Turks
Okay, maybe it was more like 10 Turks who came to Swirl to celebrate the end of summer abroad and a return home to our own little oasis in the world – the electricity had been out all day and so the event was held with generators and candlelight and a boom box playing Turkish dance hits. So nice to have our little extended family grouped together again even as a storm brewed in the Gulf.
Friends returning from Istanbul talked about the food and Mediterranean and beauty they experienced this summer and I said New Orleans is to the U.S. what Turkey is to Europe – a rare jewel box of people, music, food, and culture unique yet disarming and oh, how wonderful for us denizens that we have this as the place we call home and Turkey there always waiting for us.
