A well within
For every obstacle you face on the outside, there are larger ones you confront on the inside. To truly believe that every wall is a door, you have to take a deep breath and pull from that well inside of you that you know to be true. If we are all connected, if I do something that affects someone I love, and they do something that affects someone they love, it presents a different construct than the universe where we are all living in quiet desperation and instead are universally connected to the pain and joy of all of those around us.
A friend yesterday leaned on my kitchen counter and said she is depressed. She said she looks ahead of her and she sees no “escape” from her life, just an endless repetition of this. Can you change this? I ask her. Can you make it better?
I’m trying to prod my mother to change her apartment – to move closer – to find some light and levity – but she too sees no end to this wheel of fortune that for her seems to always pull her down.
Is the solution happy pills? Zoloft, Prozac, Wellbutrin? If everyone is medicated, then is that normal?
Catch the sunlight in your hands and enjoy its fleeting nature?
Somewhere deep down, do we all possess a well where happiness springs – do we all have that to draw from? Or is it genetic, medicated, programmable, disruptable?
