T minus Zero

I woke up this morning and didn’t have an email waiting for me from T, nor did I make a phone call to Croatia, and I didn’t even have to drag my cellphone with me on my walk with Loca. I left the shutters closed to keep the house cool. I took a deep breath after running from spot to spot yesterday, and decided that today, I would do my work in a timely fashion, and this afternoon, I will hop in my truck and go pick up my gf at the airport. Our best made plans were laid to waste, our new life awaits, we begin again.

Da Capo

Take the used-up heart like a pebble
and throw it far out.
Soon there is nothing left.
Soon the last ripple exhausts itself
in the weeds.
Returning home, slice carrots, onions, celery.
Glaze them in oil before adding
the lentils, water, and herbs.
Then the roasted chestnuts, a little pepper, the salt.
Finish with goat cheese and parsley. Eat.
You may do this, I tell you, it is permitted.
Begin again the story of your life.
