2 4 6 8 … Who do we appreciate
I go to yoga at NOAC where Michele (the Valkyrie or mother, as a friend refers to her) and Libby (the father) each teach these intense classes with a nice dose of enlightenment. I’ve run into old friends, new friends, and acquaintances in these classes but one is a stand out. A woman who has had some troubles in life and some serious issues around drinking and medication, I heard from other friends she had stopped drinking and I see her taking the class and herself seriously, which warms my heart.
One of the best things about yoga is its teachings in the classroom that can move outside with you when you go. Mastering your mind, loving kindness, how to be like a cobra (the ability to lose yourself like a cobra dancing to the foreign music of a snake charmer) – all of these messages work to take you out of your preconceived notions into greater harmony and power.
When a friend calls this evening, feeling disconnected, I think of how much we have the power to reconnect ourselves. Everyone needs an alignment sometimes, a tune up or a complete overhaul as with my friend in yoga, god knows I needed my oil changed many a time, but really, there is nothing like the resilience of human beings to pick themselves up, dust themselves off, and go at it again, with hope, faith, and good will.
