Whipsawn by addlepated planners
Today’s word of the day was a good one – addlepated, which means confused, flustered. Now take this morning’s Times Picayune, which reported that the New Orleans RTA has decided to not put the streetcar line to Poland Avenue along St. Claude. It was in January that the Times Picayune hailed the coming of the much needed streetcar line that would be key to revitalizing an underfunded and needy part of the city. The word of the day should be whipsawn, not addlepated.
Unless of course you were in the car with me on my way home from dropping Tin off at school and you happened to notice and then gasp as the concrete was being poured for a brand new CVS that is going up directly across from the Walgreens on the corner of Claiborne and Napoleon. So now you have an area of the city underserved by public transportation being denied, and you have an area overserved by corporate interest being overbuilt.
Brings to mind the question of whether or not anyone around here has digested what the past three years have revealed, which is that overbuilding, overproducing, and overlooking those less fortunate is not the Way.
